Well, actually, if I want to be honest, I'm about four days late and four dollars too short. On Monday, I was supposed to begin participating in the 21 Day Organizing Challenge put on by A Bowl Full of Lemons. I'm participating along with a few friends, including Stephanie, who's also blogging about her daily adventures in organizing. But...alas....I'm a little behind.
Do you want to know my deep, dark secret? I love to organize. I don't exactly like the cleaning portion, but I love organizing. I would love to go on a shopping spree right here: The Container Store. Ikea is another one of my favorite organization spots, but the closest one is quite far from us so I don't get to visit very often.
On Monday I was supposed to organize our junk drawer....or rather, drawers with an "s" around here. Yes, we have managed to fill two of them, side by side, in the kitchen. But daily life and the discomforts of pregnancy have gotten in the way and I've fallen behind before I even got started this little organizational challenge. So last night, after Mr. Incredible had taken the girls to church (I wasn't feeling the greatest so I stayed home), I dove into the junk drawer. Not literally, of course.
At first glance, I just stared at it and didn't even know where to begin. It was atrocious. Then I began to throw things away. And more things. And more things. Suddenly I realized that the junk drawer was full of....well, junk....that we just didn't use or need.
*All clean and wiped down....everything that wasn't thrown away is sitting on top of the counter, waiting to be organized.
After throwing away all that I could, the only things left were items like various screwdrivers, measuring tape, Command strips, every size of screw imaginable, a water filter, tiny clothes pins, magnets, push pins, safety pins, super glue, and scotch tape. Those were easy to organize! Most of them could be returned to their original homes in the garage, or in the school supply closet.
Thirty minutes later, we had gone from two very full junk drawers to only one partially full one. I'd call that a success!
